Then Sir Arthur looked on the sword, and liked it passing well.

Whether liketh you better, said Merlin, the sword or the scabbard?

Me liketh better the sword, said Arthur.

Ye are more unwise, said Merlin, for the scabbard is worth ten of the swords, for whiles ye have the scabbard upon you, ye shall never lose no blood, be ye never so sore wounded; therefore keep well the scabbard always with you.

-- Le Morte D'Arthur, by Thomas Malory

Albion Scabbards by Buck Bates

Buck Bates has started on his journey, transfering from Cutlery to Scabbardmaking.

He will not be taking custom orders, but has begun making scabbards to fit our most popular swords first, starting with the NextGen Knight/Oakeshott Type XII.

His scabbards are light, thin in cross-section, but very tough. They are constructed from high-grade Finnish Birch, wrapped with calfskin and finished with a hand-forged steel or bronze chape. Some will have buckles and belt ends, others will be finished in the "tie" style.

Buck, working with Peter Johnsson, is striving for period authenticity, as well as functionality and fit.

These scabbards are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
